MUSSOORIE: Residents of Mussoorie have expressed happiness that the time and money spent on going to Dehradun for administrative works would be saved after the creation of tehsil in Mussoorie.
A major concern though among people is this could result in traffic bottlenecks, especially since the existing office of sub-divisional magistrate is at the centre of the Mall Road.

“Residents, especially the students, had to make many visits to Dehradun to get certificates and other documents for which they had to spend a lot of time and money. But the opening of tehsil in Mussoorie would enable residents to get their work done in Mussoorie itself which is a big boon for the residents,” said Satish Dhaundhiyal, a local.
Residents of villages adjoining Mussoorie also expressed happiness over the announcement that around 20 villages would be linked to Mussoorie tehsil.
“For every work, people had to either go to Dhanolti or to Dehradun but this move would make things easier for the villagers,” said Naresh Nautiyal, a resident of a village adjoining Mussoorie. Meanwhile, a section of the citizenry expressed concern over the fact that since the office of sub-divisional magistrate is in the centre of the Mall Road, opening up of a tehsil there could result in traffic congestions. “This is a welcome move no doubt but the government should consider making a new tehsil office at a location outside the Mall Road in order to prevent traffic congestion on the Mall and inconvenience to all,” said Anuj Gupta, chairman of Mussoorie Municipal Council.
